You are amazed, aren’t you?

Wait! It’s not over yet. In that small smoke room (That’s what it was called) Sinan had a moistening system built and he produced ink from the soot that was collected in the room. The ink was the best kind at that time. All the beautiful designs, drawings, writings, decorations were made with this distilled ink. I am emphasizing the fact again that all these were produced by the science and technology of the time 458 years ago!

There is one more code.. I have told you about niches by means of which the smoke was collected in the smoke room.

If you go out and look into one of them, you will see a huge board on which it is written ‘Allah’ and on the other, ‘Muhammed’

Sinan’s Letter

Some years ago the Suleymaniye Mosque fell into danger of collapsing. If it couldn’t be prevented the whole building would fall down within a short time. All the carrying weight was on its archs. In the middle of each of these archs was a lacking (or foundation) stone. And they had become worn out in the course of time. Nobody knew and there wasn’t any written document telling how the worn out stones could be changed. All the qualified engineers and architechts of Turkey were called. Everyone had a different opinion but no one could solve the problem. As the discussions were going on, there was a chaos in and outside the mosque.

While those architects and engineers belonging to different instituations were examining the archs, one of them discovered a hidden hollow just by accident. In the hole there was a piece of paper with a note written on it. It was written with the old alphabet. It was examined by many specialists and was proved to be real. It was a letter written by architect Sinan himself. When it was translated into todays Turkish,it said, ‘You’ve found my letter. This shows the foundation stone of the arch is worn out and you don’t know how to change it..’ Great Sinan explained how it was going to be changed word by word. In the same place there was a bottle. In it there was another note telling how the old stone could be changed with the new. It said,’Whoever wishes to change this old stone with the new, will place a greesed ropeon both sides of the new stone. While pushing both ends of the rope into the sides of the old stone on one side, some others will pull out the ends on the other side. This way you’ll take the old stone out and put the new stone in.

They did what they were to do word by word and this was how Suleymaniye was saved. This letter is still being kept in the Topkapı Palace.

Selimiye Mosque

It is said that Sinan found a fifth kind of mathematical operation in additioun to the four kinds we use today. And by the help of this, he could place its huge dome while building Selimiye.

People who climb up stairs of its minarets don’t see one another. This is surely the product of an architectural genius. The ground, on which the mosque was built, was soft and loose. For this reason, it was noticed that the minarets might collapse within a short time. A group of international scientists came together and tried to find a solution. Finally they decided that the best thing they could do was to use metal handcuffs around the bases of the minarets because they were the newest product of the latest technology. When they dug the ground, to their surprise, they saw that Sinan had already used similar handcuffs. Hundreds of years ago, Sinan had thought of and applied the same thing. A group of Japanese construction engineers, architects and geological physicists came to Turkey sometime between years 1950 and 60.

After getting the permission of the ministry of construction, they began to examine certain historical buildings. After visiting Ayasofya and Yerebatan Sarnıcı, they saw Suleymaniye , which is Sinan’s mosque of his foreman period. Also Sultanahmet Mosque built by his student architect Davud Aga. They examined these two mosques for many days. As the days went by, their amazement increased. The Japans had noticed that both of these mosques had been built on soft and loose ground. They wondered how on earth, the mosques hadn’t even been cracked within such a long period of time. They cancelled the rest of their Turkey tour and focused on those two mosques. At the end of their research they reached the conclution that the mosques didn’t stay still but swayed during earthquakes. And this fact, protected them from matural disasters. The construction of the minarets were even more surprising because they were seated on an advenced rail system, by the help of which they could move all directions approximately 5 degrees.

To make a deeper research, they went to Edirne and visited Selimiye which is Sinan masterpeace of his master period. There, they were even more immensly amazed. They had to work for months to understand the secrets of Selimiye.

After returning to their country they put into action the secrets of Sinan and they were able to build huge skyscapers. Many of the systems, that developed countries use to build skyscapers today, are the smae that Sinan had inventedband used in his works.

The dome of Selimiye

The dome of Selimiye, which is unique of its kind, is 31.21 m. in diameter, shows there is only one God. God is unşque. It’s windows which are of five levels represent the five orders of Islam. The four pulpits stand for the four religious sects. The six stairways in the abckside minarets show the six orders of the faith in God. The twelve galeries of its minarets, stand for the twelth Sultan, who had the mosque built. The 32 doors of Selimiye and its annex show the same number of the 32 orders of Muslim religion.

Did you know that Mehmet Efendi, the architect who built Tac Mahal which is one of the Seven Wonders of the World, is Sinan’s student?

Mimar Sinan'in mektubu

Birkaç yil once, Suleymaniye Camii'nin yikilma tehlikesiyle karsi karsiya kaldigi anlasilmis. Eğer cozum bulunamazsa, koca cami kisa bir zaman içinde yikilacakmis. Caminin tum tasiyici yuku kemerlerindeymis.

Heyet Sinan'in söylediklerini aynen yapmis. Suleymaniye camisi boylelikle kurtarilmis. Bu mektup su an Topkapi Sarayi'nda saklaniyormus.

Selimiye camii

Selimiye camisisinin zemini gevsek toprakmis.Bu nedenle minarelerinin yakin zamanda yikilacagifarkedilimis.Uluslararasi bir grup bilimadami toplanmislar.Nasil kurtaririz bu tarihi minareleri diye kafakafaya vermisler.

Ayasofyayi, Yerebatan Sarnicini filan gezdiktensonra sira Sinan´ in kalfalik eseri SuleymaniyeCamisi´yle Sinan´in ogrencisi Mimar DavutAga´nin eseri Sultanahmet Camisi´ne gelmis.

Ordaki olaganustu sistemleri gorunce iyice dumurolmuslar.Selimiye´nin tasarım sirlarini aylarini harcayarak cozmüşler.

Japonya´ya donduklerinde ise Sinan´in sirlarini uygulamaya sokarak sehirlerini Sinan´in kullandigi sistemlerle kurup muazzam gokdelenler dikmisler.Yani su an gelismis ulkelerin gokdelen yapiminda kullanildiklari cogu sistem, yuzyillar önce Sinan´in gelistirdigi mekanizmalarmis.
